We are also interested in featuring some of Brant’s Graphic Design works. The goal of this Medium page is to publish today the work that Brant completed as a record for him and for his family, associates, and anyone who thinks the artwork is cool. Brant made all of his dreams come true with his commitment to fine art and commercial design.

The images we have of Brant’s at the time of this first Medium publication are limited. These images are mostly Illustrations that Brant Sr. completed as commissioned work that were used in print publications. Steven Brant Day also was a prolific and award winning Graphic Designer and Corporate Branding Guru with an awesome portfolio and tons of cool clients.

The one dimension we are missing from these images of Steven Brant Day’s artwork is the physical aspect of the mixed media. These pieces are interesting visually on a computer screen of in print but to see these works close up is exciting. Brant developed and used some interesting surfaces to paint to and he also made use of combinations of materials. For example you might find one work painted on a piece of card board with acrylic paints but with cut outs from a magazine or a dollar bill fastened onto the cardboard with a cutout from a folder carefully added to create depth and movement, a visual syncopation. Another characteristic you might notice is Brant’s playfulness and humor in the shapes he uses.

Brant uses a glue to reserve negative space in the folder cutout of boxes in the image of his work above. He uses a piece of cardboard roughly 8" x 8" and grabs an Oils Pastel to add movement and depth with the streaks that are almost like an urban city movement more than they are clouds or a landscape. The main character is in motion while he reads and his head outline is a reprise of Cubism.

The image above this copy is painted on graph paper. Brant would usually work on his paintings and illustrations at home and around his family. Art was so much a part of his daily life that he would spend all day at work working with clients and other designers at Corporate Reports in Atalanta GA and then later his own company: Design South located a few blocks away from his home in Suwanne GA. Steven Brant Day developed into a force in the graphic design world winning award after after award each year. Print Magazine, How Magazine, Atlanta based design awards. For Brant he never let the end vision of a brand or a design become limited by the “how” aspect. Whatever he could create in his mind for a client he would bring to life in image and brand for that client. After all that art and design smashed into a frenetic but low key and relaxed pace you would find Brant home with his Mormon family spending time as if all that art was just so he could finally get to the time he could focus on family time and having fun at home and with sports and other activities.
